If you own a gaming or performance laptop, you might have heard the term "Optimus" thrown around. NVIDIA Optimus (often labeled as Hybrid Graphics or MSHybrid mode) is a switching technology that automatically alternates between integrated graphics (iGPU) and dedicated NVIDIA graphics to balance performance and battery life.
When you are browsing the web or writing documents, your laptop uses iGPU to save power. When you launch a game or a demanding creative application, it seamlessly switches to the powerful NVIDIA GPU.
In Windows 11, Optimus is usually invisible by default, so you need to check a few system indicators to confirm whether your laptop supports it. This is a precise, reliable set of methods to determine whether Optimus is active on your system.
Open Settings > System > Display > Graphics.

Select an application and expand the drop-down menu of GPU preference.
View the options such as:

Another fast and simple method is using Windows Task Manager.
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open it.
Go to the Performance tab.

In Windows 11, “Optimus” is often no longer labeled explicitly. Finding out if your Windows 11 laptop has NVIDIA Optimus is a simple process that can be done in just a few minutes, and can help you better understand its performance capabilities and troubleshoot any graphics issues you might encounter.
