How to Enable Windows Dynamic Lock

Oct 10, 2026

Leaving your Windows PC unlocked when you step away can expose your files, messages, and other personal information to anyone nearby. Windows includes a convenient security feature called Dynamic Lock that can automatically lock your PC when you move away with your paired Bluetooth device.

Dynamic Lock is especially useful for laptops and other devices that you frequently use in shared or public environments. In this guide, we will show you how to enable Dynamic Lock in Windows 11.

What Is Windows Dynamic Lock?

Dynamic Lock is a Windows security feature that automatically locks your PC when your paired Bluetooth device, such as a smartphone, is no longer within Bluetooth range after you move away from your computer.

Dynamic Lock does not unlock your PC when you return. You still need to sign in using your PIN, password, fingerprint, or another configured sign-in method.

How to Enable Dynamic Lock in Windows 11

Before Enabling Dynamic Lock, you need to pair your phone or another Bluetooth device with your Windows PC.

Step 1. Open Windows Settings

Press Windows + I to open Settings, then navigate to Accounts > Sign-in options.

Step 2. Turn On Dynamic Lock

Scroll down to the Additional settings section, and click Dynamic lock. Then, check the checkbox for “Allow Windows to automatically lock your device when you're away”.

Step 3. Test Dynamic Lock

After enabling the feature, ensure to save your work. Then, take your paired Bluetooth phone away from your PC and move beyond Bluetooth range.

Windows may take a short amount of time to detect that the Bluetooth connection has been lost and lock the computer. You can then return to your PC and sign in normally.

Conclusion

Windows Dynamic Lock provides a simple way to improve PC security by automatically locking your computer when you move away with a paired Bluetooth device. For the best protection, use Dynamic Lock as an additional security measure and continue to lock your PC manually when you leave it unattended.
