Have you ever wondered how long your Windows 11 PC has been running since its last restart? Whether you're troubleshooting an issue, monitoring system stability, or simply satisfying your curiosity, checking your computer's uptime is a straightforward process. Uptime refers to the length of time your system has been continuously operating without a shutdown or reboot. Here are several methods to find this information on Windows 11.
Task Manager provides a quick and clear view of system uptime.
1. Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager, or press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
2. Go to the Performance tab.
3. Select CPU on the left panel.
4. Look for Uptime in the lower-right corner.
This value displays the exact duration your PC has been running, shown in days, hours, minutes, and seconds.
If you prefer using commands, Windows offers multiple options.
1. Press Win + R, type cmd, and press Enter.
2. Type the following command and press Enter:
systeminfo | find "System Boot Time"
The output will show the exact date and time your system last booted. You can calculate the uptime by subtracting the boot time from the current time.
PowerShell provides a more readable format.
1. Right-click the Start button and select Windows PowerShell or Terminal.
2. Enter this command:
(get-date) - (gcim Win32_OperatingSystem).LastBootUpTime
This will display the uptime as a TimeSpan object showing days, hours, minutes, and seconds
Windows 11 also lets you estimate your system uptime by checking the duration of an active network connection.
1. Open Settings by pressing Win + I.
2. Go to Network & Internet.
3. Select Advanced network settings.
4. In the Network adapters section, choose your active network adapter (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
5. Look for the Duration field.
This method isn’t exact if the adapter has been reset or reconnected, but it usually aligns with your PC’s uptime.
You can also estimate your system’s uptime by viewing the duration of your active network connection through the classic Control Panel.
1. Press Win + R, type control, and press Enter to open Control Panel.
2. Select Network and Internet.
3. Click Network and Sharing Center.
4. In the left-hand menu, click Change adapter settings.
5. Double-click on your active network adapter (e.g., your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection).
6. In the connection status window that opens, look for the Duration field. This time indicates how long the network adapter has been continuously connected.
Similar to the method in Settings, the Duration value shows how long the network connection has been active. In most cases, this aligns closely with your system uptime unless the adapter was disabled, disconnected, or reset.
Checking your Windows 11 computer's uptime is simple and can be done through multiple methods depending on your preference. The Task Manager provides the quickest glance, while PowerShell offer more precision and detail. Regular monitoring of your system's uptime can help maintain optimal performance and identify potential issues before they become serious problems.
