How to Run Programs as Administrator Automatically in Windows

Aug 5, 2025

Running certain programs as administrator is often necessary for full functionality, especially for system tools or software that modifies files and settings. In this article, we will guide you through the steps to make a program always run with admin rights by default.

Method 1. Enable Run this app as Administrator in Properties

This method works for individual shortcuts or executable files:

Step 1. Open App Properties

Right-click the program’s shortcut on the desktop or the .exe file in its file location, and click Properties.

Step 2. Switch to Compatibility

Click on the Compatibility tab from top.

Step 3. Enable run as admin

Under Settings, check the box for Run this program as an administrator.

Click Apply, then OK to make your changes take effect.

Method 2. Enable Run with highest privileges in Task Scheduler

This method works for apps that ignore compatibility Settings:

Step 1. Open Task Schedule

Press Windows + S, search for Task Scheduler, and open it.

Step 2. Create a task

  • Click Create Task on the top-right Actions section.
  • Under the General tab of the window that pops up, name the task (e.g., "Run MyApp as Admin").
  • Check the box for Run with highest privileges.

Step 3. Actions settings

  • Go to the Actions tab and click New.
  • Choose Start a program.
  • Browse for the .exe file of your app.
  • Click on OK.

Step 4. Triggers settings

  • Go to the Triggers tab.
  • Click New and set the trigger (e.g., At log on).
  • Keep clicking OK to save the task and to close Create Task.

Step 5. Create a shortcut

You can then create a shortcut to run this app with admin rights every time.

Conclusion

These two simple methods ensure your program always starts with administrative privileges, no UAC prompt or right-clicking required.
