Windows Update helps keep your system secure and up to date, but its restart notifications can sometimes interrupt work or appear at inconvenient times. Fortunately, Windows allows you to control whether these update restart notifications are shown. This guide will show you several proven methods to remove or manage these restart warnings.
For most users, the quickest way to reduce interruptions is through Windows Settings. This method doesn’t stop updates, but it quiets the most frequent notifications.
1. Press Win + I to open Settings.
2. Go to Windows Update > Advanced options.
3. Find the toggle for Notify me when a restart is required to finish updating and turn it OFF.
This method offers granular policy control for administrators.
1.Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
2. Navigate to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Legacy Policies
3. To disable notifications, double-click Turn off auto-restart notifications for update installations and set it to Enabled.
4. To prevent restarts while you're using the PC, enable the policy for No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations.
The Restart to update warning is meant to protect your system, but it doesn’t have to interrupt your workflow. By adjusting update settings, or system policies, you can regain control without sacrificing security.
