How to Fix Microsoft Store Not Working on Windows 11

Feb 10, 2026

Microsoft Store is essential for downloading apps, games, and system components on Windows 11. However, it may sometimes stop working properly—failing to open, getting stuck on downloads, showing error codes, or crashing unexpectedly. When this happens, repairing, resetting, or clearing the Microsoft Store cache can usually fix the issue without reinstalling Windows.

Repair or Reset Microsoft Store

Repairing or resetting Microsoft Store fixes corrupted files and restores normal functionality. It’s best to try repair first, then reset if the problem continues.

1. Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > System components.
Go to System components

2. Find Microsoft Store, click the three dots (⋮) and select Advanced options.
select Advanced options

3. Here you can:

  • Repair: Fixes app files without losing data. Try this first.
  • Reset: Clears all app data (sign-in, preferences) and reinstalls it. Use if repair fails.

Clear the Microsoft Store Cache

Use this to fix issues like slow loading, outdated content, or download errors.

1. Press Win + R to open Run.

2. Type wsreset.exe and press Enter.
Type wsreset.ex

3. A blank Command Prompt window will appear, wait until it closes automatically and then Microsoft Store will reopen on its own.

Reinstall the Microsoft Store

If the Store app is missing or the previous methods fail, you can re-register/reinstall it using Windows PowerShell.

1. Search for PowerShell in the Windows Search bar, right-click the top result, and select the Run as administrator option.

2. Type the following command to uninstall the Microsoft Store app and press Enter:

Get-AppxPackage -allusers *WindowsStore* | Remove-AppxPackage

3. Type the following command to install the Microsoft Store app and press Enter:

Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers Microsoft.WindowsStore* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
Type the following command to reinstall

4. Once complete, restart your PC again. The Microsoft Store should now be reinstalled.

Conclusion

By following these three targeted methods, you should be able to resolve most issues with the Microsoft Store on Windows 11. If problems persist, there may be a deeper system issue, and running a System File Checker scan is recommended.
