A low battery warning is one of the most useful features on any laptop. It prevents sudden shutdowns, helps save your work, and gives enough time to plug in the charger. However, some Windows 11 users have reported that the low battery notification doesn’t show up, leaving the system to power off without warning. If you’re experiencing this issue, here are some practical methods to bring back the low battery alerts on Windows 11.
The first step is to ensure that system notifications aren't being blocked entirely:
1. Press Win + I to open Settings.
2. Go to System > Notifications.
3. Toggle the switch to On if notifications are disabled.
Windows 11 allows users to customize battery warning levels. If the low battery notification is turned off or set incorrectly, it won’t appear.
1. Press Win + R, type control, and press Enter.
2. Go to Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
3. Select Change plan settings next to the active plan.
4. Click Change advanced power settings.
5. In the pop-up, expand Battery > Low battery notification.
6. Set it to On for both On battery and Plugged in, then click Apply.
Sometimes corrupted power plans can cause notification issues.
1. Type cmd in the Search bar and select Run as administrator to open the Command Prompt.
2. Type following command and press Enter:
powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
This resets all power plans to their default settings
Windows includes a built-in troubleshooter that can identify and fix power-related issues:
1. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
2. Find Power in the list and click Run.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the diagnostic process.
A faulty or outdated driver can prevent Windows from recognizing battery status properly.
1. Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
2. Expand Batteries. Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery > Update driver.
3. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
4. If no updates are found, right-click the driver again, choose Uninstall device, then restart the PC. Windows will reinstall it automatically.
A deteriorating battery may not report charge levels accurately:
1. Open Command Prompt as administrator.
2. Type the following command and press Enter:
powercfg /batteryreport
3. Open the generated battery-report.html file. Check the Design Capacity and Full Charge Capacity figures in the Installed Batteries section. If full charge capacity is significantly lower than design capacity (less than 60%), consider replacing your battery.
For those who want more control over their battery notifications, Windows 11 allows creating custom alerts.
Missing low battery notifications are annoying but usually fixable. By above methods, you can avoid sudden power loss. And if you want that extra assurance, custom alerts are a great fallback.
