How to Reset Windows 11 Login Password When Forget

Forgetting your Windows 11 log-in password can be frustrating. Luckily, there are several methods to help you regain access to your computer. Stay with us to know how you can reset your log-in password when you forget it on your Windows 11.

NOTE: The method introduced in this WiseCleaner post only focuses on Windows 11. Before starting any operation, please prepare an empty USB flash drive.

Create a password reset disk first

A password reset disk makes it possible to create a new password if you forget the password for this current user account and are unable to log on.

Step 1. Open Control Panel

Click on the icon of Control Panel on the desktop to open.

Step 2. Select User Accounts

Click User Accounts on Control Panel Homepage (View by Large icons).

Step3. Click Create a password reset disk

Insert an empty USB flash drive, and click Create a password reset disk from the left-hand pane.

Step 4. Follow the wizard to create a password reset disk

Click on Next to begin the process.

You will need to select the right USB flash drive, enter your current user account password, and wait for the progress bar to complete to 100%. Then click on Finish to exit.

There should be a file named “userkey.psw” on the USB flash drive once you have finished.

Reset log-in password when forget

Now if you forget your log-in password one day, you can reset it by following the steps below:

Step 1. Insert the password reset disk

Insert the USB flash drive which contains the password reset disk you created beforehand into your Windows 11 computer.

Step 2. Access Reset Password

On the login page, enter the wrong password several times until the characters “Reset password” pop up below it. Click on it.

Step 3. Follow the wizard to reset password

Follow the Password Reset instructions on the screen to reset the log-in password, or log on Windows 11 without any password.

You will need to select the password reset disk, and enter a new password, or select Next to boot up Windows 11 directly without any password.

Wait for the wizard to complete, then you should be able to log in even you forget your former password.
