How to Personalize Your iPhone Charging Sound

Jan 24, 2025

Apple has introduced many new features and improvements that continue to enhance the user experience. For instance, they allow users to customize the sound of their iPhone charging. This helps users integrate a bit of personality and fun into their daily routine by selecting or creating a unique sound that plays whenever their device begins charging.

Use Shortcut to Set Charging Sound for Your iPhone

First, only iPhones running iOS 14 or later can use the shortcut action to change the charging sound. Therefore, before continuing with the process, make sure your device is updated to the available system. We will use iOS 18 as a case study in this guide.

1. Open the Shortcut app. (If you don’t know where it is, you can swipe down from the middle of the Home screen, tap the Search field, then enter Shortcuts to open.)

2. Go to the Automation tab and tap New Automation.

3. Scroll to the bottom of the options list and select Charger.

Scroll to the bottom of the options list and select Charger from Settings.

4. Here, select the Is Connected option. If you also want a customized sound to play whenever you unplug your phone, select the Is Disconnected option as well.

 Select the Is Connected option.

5. Tap Next when you're done. Then the screen will turn to the When iPhone is connected to the power page.

Now, your next move depends on which customization option you want. Generally, there are mainly two options: playing a song from Apple Music or Siri-spoken text.

Change Your iPhone's Charging Sound to a Song from Apple Music

If you want your iPhone to play the full song that you downloaded on your Apple Music every time you plug in your phone, please try this:

1. Type in Play Sound in the search bar, then click the Play Sound to go on.

2. In the Search Actions bar, type in Play Music and tap to add it to your shortcut.

4. Once you pick a song, the Library popup will close and the gray Music text will be replaced by the song title.

5. Hit Next in the top-right corner and toggle off the Run After Confirmation option on the

next page.

sound that is unique to your iPhone. Plug in your iPhone to test the effect.

Setting Your iPhone's Charging Tone to Siri-Spoken Text

If you don't have specific music in mind for when you plug in your iPhone, you can make Siri say something instead.

1. Same steps to open the Shortcut app and get into the When iPhone is connected to the power page.

2. Search Speak Text in the Search bar, and then add it to the actions list.

3. Tap the Text and type what you want Siri to say when you plug in or unplug your phone. Think of creative, funny phrases to get the ultimate cool effect.

By the way, you can change the pitch, speed, and even language that Siri speaks by tapping the arrow for more options. When you're done setting a word or phrase for Siri to say, tap Next.

Tap the Text and type what you want Siri to say when you plug in or unplug your phone.

4. On the next screen, make sure that Run Immediately is turned on, and then tap Done.

Now you can plug in your iPhone to test out your new charging sound.
