Starting from Windows 11 version 24H2 and certain preview builds, Microsoft added an Ask Copilot option to the right-click menu. It appears when you right-click on files, folders, or text, and allows you to quickly query the AI for tasks like summarizing content or generating ideas.
While some find it useful, others may consider it clutter. Fortunately, removing it is straightforward. This guide walks you through the way to remove “Ask Copilot” from your context menu manually using the Registry Editor.
Editing the Windows Registry is the most direct way to remove “Ask Copilot”.
Warning: Incorrect registry changes can cause system issues. Always create a restore point first.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Blocked
Then right-click on Blocked, select New > String Value and name it as following:
{CB3B0003-8088-4EDE-8769-8B354AB 2FF8C}
Double-click the value you just created on the right-side pane, and set Ask Copilot as its Value data.
Click on OK to close the Registry Editor window, and restart Windows Explorer.
By following these steps in this WiseCleaner article, you should find Ask Copilot disappear from your context menu. WiseX is an excellent alternative to Ask Copilot, which allows users to switch between different AI models.
