How to Enable or Disable Automatic Sign-in on Microsoft Edge in Windows 11

Jul 24, 2026

Microsoft Edge can automatically sign you in to websites using your Microsoft account or saved credentials, making it easier to access services like Outlook, OneDrive, and Microsoft 365. While this feature is convenient, some users prefer to disable it for better privacy, especially on shared computers. This guide explains how to enable or disable automatic sign-in in Microsoft Edge on Windows 11.

Method 1: Enable or Disable Automatic Sign-in in Microsoft Edge Settings

The easiest way to control automatic sign-in is through Edge's settings.

1. Open Microsoft Edge on your Windows 11 computer.

2. Click the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner and select Settings.

3. In the left pane, click on Profiles.

4. On the right pane, under Profile settings, click Profile preferences.
click Profile preferences

5. Locate the Automatic sign in on Edge option, toggle the switch to:

  • OnEnable automatic sign-in
  • Off Disable automatic sign-in
toggle the switch

Method 2: Configure via Registry Editor

For IT administrators or users who want to enforce automatic sign-in settings across all users on a system, the Registry Editor method provides broader control.

1. Press Win + R, type regedit and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to run as administrator.

2. Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge

If the Edge key doesn’t exist, create it. Right-click the Microsoft key and select New > Key. Name it Edge.

3. Right-click the Edge key and choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value to create two entries:

  • WebToBrowserSignInEnabled
  • SeamlessWebToBrowserSignInEnabled
create two entries

4. Double-click and set the value for each entry:

  • 1 – Enable automatic sign-in
  • 0 – Disable automatic sign-in
set the value

Note: Both entries must have identical values (both 1 or both 0) for the setting to work effectively.

Conclusion

Choose the method that best fits your needs. For most home users, the Edge Settings method is the simplest and safest option. For administrators managing multiple devices, the Registry provide more comprehensive control.
