How to Quickly Turn on the PC Like Programmers Do

Dec 15, 2025

For most people, turning on a computer is a simple routine: press the power button, wait for the boot-up, and log in. For programmers and power users, however, the process is optimized for speed, efficiency, and minimal friction. This guide outlines practical, real-world methods programmers commonly use to boot their PCs quickly and get to work faster.

Steps to Speed up the Boot-up Time Significantly

Step 1. Launch Control Panel

Press Windows+R to open Run dialog box. Type “control” in it and click OK.

Step 2. Open System Settings

Select System on the menu of the Control Pane main interface. If it is not there, change the View by method to either Large icons or Small icons.

Step 3. Select Advanced System Settings

On the window that pops up, scroll down until you find Advanced system settings in the Related links section. Click on it.

Step 4. Open Startup and Recovery Settings

This will open the System Properties window. Then click on Settings under the Startup and Recovery section.

Step 5. Change the Value

On the Startup and Recovery window that opens, set the values of the following options to both 0 seconds:

  • Time to display list pf operating systems
  • Time to display recovery options when needed

The Bottom Line

The goal turning on your PC like a programmer is to transition from "off" to "productive" in the shortest time, with the fewest distractions, so that you can start your workday with the efficient, intentional mindset of a pro.
